Mental Golf Lesson - Ease the Pressure

Ease the pressure

When you play golf or are learning to play golf I am sure that you like me want to do well all throughout the round, and this, well it only adds to the pressure.

Each shot in your round of golf is pressurised. You are trying to get it close to the hole, in a good position to get it close or into the hole itself.

A lot of people play well in practice rounds but not in competition whilst others find it easier to play competitive golf because they can concentrate more.

To cope with pressure on the golf course you must do two things.

1. Practice the shots which will more than likely be incurred during a competitive round. These will definately include:

a. Putts of 6 to 10 feet to rescue a par or bogey.
b. Hitting the ball over a bunker to the green
c. Hitting to a tight pin position

2. Think of your round of golf as a string of pearls on a necklace:

a. Don’t think of what score you will get at the end of the round
b. Practice collecting either 18 pearls (One hole at a time) or 80 pearls (One shot at a time) if you break it down into small targets these will be more in reach than the ultimate target.

This gets you to think in the here and now and play one shot or one hole at a time.

Have a great game if you are playing today and good luck in improving your golf and handicap

All the Best

Richard
